India: Three-Day Catholic Youth Meet to Take Place in Riot-Hit Manipur

The North Eastern Regional Youth Commission–India Catholic Youth Movement NorthEast (NERYC–ICYM-NE), in collaboration with the Manipur Catholic Youth Organisation (MCYO), will hold a three-day Catholic youth meet in the riot-affected Churachandpur District of the northeastern state of Manipur, India, from September 20 to 22, 2025.
The gathering will take place at Good Shepherd Parish, Lamka, under the theme “Pilgrim of Hope.” It is expected to draw key representatives from NERYC, ICYM-NE, and MCYO, as well as a significant number of Catholic youth participants from outside the district and the Kuki-Zo community.
Churachandpur, the host district, has been one of the hardest-hit areas during the recent ethnic violence, suffering the highest number of casualties and hosting thousands of displaced individuals. Against this backdrop, the youth meet is seen as a timely effort to revitalize Catholic youth who have faced isolation and disconnection over the past two years.
As tensions gradually ease, Catholic leaders from various communities are coming together with a heartfelt commitment to foster unity, community, and leadership among the youth. They recognize the importance of collaboration during these times and are dedicated to reaffirming the inclusive and universal spirit of the Catholic faith.
The program will feature a youth orientation, prayer sessions, a choreography competition, and cultural exchange showcases highlighting the traditional dances of various tribes, celebrating the region’s rich heritage.
Radio Veritas Asia (RVA), a media platform of the Catholic Church, aims to share Christ. RVA started in 1969 as a continental Catholic radio station to serve Asian countries in their respective local language, thus earning the tag “the Voice of Asian Christianity.” Responding to the emerging context, RVA embraced media platforms to connect with the global Asian audience via its 21 language websites and various social media platforms.
