India: Young Managaloren Wins Prestigious J. Maurus Award

Reshel Bretny Fernandes from Mangalore receives the J. Maurus Award for her book Bharat @ 2047: Role of Youth.

Reshel Bretny Fernandes, a promising young writer and eloquent speaker from Mangalore, outh India, has been chosen as the recipient of the prestigious J. Maurus Award for her book Bharat @ 2047: Role of Youth, published by Taneesha Publishers. The recognition, first reported by Catholic Connect, honors literary works that uphold human and social values.

In Bharat @ 2047, Reshel envisions the youth of India as the torchbearers of transformation, guiding the nation toward a “Viksit Bharat” by the centenary of independence. Drawing from the insights of leaders such as Sardar Patel, Aurobindo Ghosh, Dattopant Thengadi, and Swami Vivekananda, she presents a roadmap built on courage, innovation, and resilience.

The book covers themes ranging from culture, sustainable development, and social justice to science, manufacturing, and leadership, urging young people to take an active role in shaping a just and inclusive future.

The J. Maurus Award, instituted by the Society of St Paul in collaboration with the Indian Catholic Press Association (ICPA), honors the legacy of Italian missionary Fr. J. Maurus, whose writings continue to inspire generations with their focus on human dignity, social values, and spiritual wisdom.

Reshel’s literary journey began in childhood and has grown into a remarkable body of work. In addition to Bharat @ 2047, she has authored The Environment Bond of Coexistence, Light of Education Brightens World, and Essays on Collective Topics. She has also earned over 150 awards and recognitions, including commendations from both the President and Prime Minister of India. Currently, she is pursuing her LL.B. at SDM Law College, Mangalore.

As highlighted by Catholic Connect, Reshel will receive the award at the 30th National Convention of Christian Journalists, organized by the ICPA, in Pune on September 20, 2025.
