Indian Catholic bishop urges global leaders to build bridges, not walls

An Indian Catholic bishop participating in the Global Leaders’ Summit 2025 has called on leaders to build bridges for the common good.

Vijaya Kumar Rayarala, bishop of Srikakulam, was speaking at the Global Leaders’ Summit that took place at the Taj Deccan in Hyderabad, south India, on June 13, 2025.

Global leaders are to build bridges, not walls. They are not to build barriers but to make friends, said Rayarala, a member of the Pontifical Institute for Foreign Missions (PIME).

He also took part in the launching of the book “YUVAJWALA” (“Young Flame”) along with other global leaders.

Leading government officials, diplomats, visionaries, and changemakers were all part of this prestigious international conference.

The summit, which featured prominent leaders like Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka (deputy chief minister of Telangana), D. Sridhar Babu (cabinet minister for IT and industries), and Ponnam Prabhakar (cabinet minister for transport and backward class welfare), focused on international cooperation, sustainable development, global diplomacy, and strategic innovation.

Lawmakers from Germany, Russia, Bulgaria, Malta, and Argentina were among the international delegates, along with prominent representatives from the European Trade Council, the Diplomatic Club, and the International Diplomatic Organization.

The summit underscored how leadership and cross-border collaboration can contribute to a better future for the world.

Radio Veritas Asia (RVA), a media platform of the Catholic Church, aims to share Christ. RVA started in 1969 as a continental Catholic radio station to serve Asian countries in their respective local language, thus earning the tag “the Voice of Asian Christianity.”  Responding to the emerging context, RVA embraced media platforms to connect with the global Asian audience via its 21 language websites and various social media platforms.
