Pakistan Archbishop Urges Catholic Students to Aim for Leadership in Public Service

Archbishop Joseph Arshad encourages Catholic students to pursue higher education and leadership roles during the 15th Diploma Distribution Ceremony in Pakistan on Oct. 29, 2026.

Archbishop Joseph Arshad of Islamabad-Rawalpindi urged Catholic students to pursue higher education and aspire to leadership positions in civil service, government, and the judiciary during the 15th Diploma Distribution Ceremony on October 29, organized by the Diocesan Catechetical Center.

The ceremony brought together students, teachers, school principals, parents, priests, and representatives of 43 schools affiliated with the Diocesan Board of Education. Islamabad-Rawalpindi is one of Pakistan’s Catholic dioceses, serving communities in the country’s capital region and surrounding areas.

Archbishop Arshad presided over the opening Mass and served as the chief guest. In his homily, he emphasized the importance of providing children and young people with sound Catholic education and catechetical instruction.

He said Christian formation should help students understand Church teachings, learn Christian history, and develop a personal relationship with Christ. He stressed that catechesis goes beyond classroom instruction, forming consciences, nurturing faith, and preparing young people to lead responsible lives of service.

Addressing parents and guardians, the archbishop urged them to take an active role in their children’s religious education, reinforce Christian values at home, and help them remain connected to their faith and heritage. He highlighted the shared responsibility of families, schools, and the Church in the formation of young people.

During the ceremony, students from participating schools presented a guard of honor to the archbishop, while bouquets were offered to him and the priests attending the event.

Students also presented tableaus and speeches focusing on Gospel values and the significance of the Year of Children. Their performances highlighted faith, compassion, love, service, respect, and responsibility, while providing opportunities to develop confidence and showcase their talents.

A major part of the event was the recognition of students from the 43 participating schools. They received shields, medals, and diploma certificates in acknowledgment of their participation and achievements in catechetical and Christian formation programs.

In his message to the students, Archbishop Arshad encouraged them to take their education seriously, set ambitious goals, and prepare for greater responsibilities in society. He particularly urged them to consider careers in senior positions in civil service, government, and the judiciary.

He connected education and professional development with the Diocese’s vision of educating the Church, making it skillful, and keeping it faithful, so that it may be filled with grace and bear witness in society.

The ceremony concluded with a vote of thanks by the Director of the Diocesan Catechetical Center, who acknowledged the archbishop, priests, school administrators, teachers, parents, students, and organizers for their contributions.

The annual diploma ceremony recognized student achievement while reaffirming the diocese’s commitment to strengthening Catholic identity and forming young people as educated, faith-filled, and responsible members of Pakistani society.
