Pakistan Bishops Begin Ad Limina Visit with Mass at Lateran Basilica

Pakistan bishops begin their Ad Limina visit with Mass at the Archbasilica of Saint John Lateran in Rome on May 11, 2026.

The Pakistan Catholic Bishops’ Conference officially began its Ad Limina visit in Rome on May 11 with a Mass at the Archbasilica of Saint John Lateran.

Cardinal Joseph Coutts presided over the Eucharistic celebration at the basilica, the cathedral church of the Diocese of Rome. The basilica is dedicated to Christ the Savior and honors Saint John the Baptist and Saint John the Apostle.

During the Mass, the bishops prayed for the Universal Church and especially for Christians in Pakistan, asking for deeper faith, stronger witness and continued growth of the Church in the country. They also offered prayers for peace, justice and harmony throughout the world.

Following the liturgical celebration, the bishops visited four Vatican offices as part of the official program of the Ad Limina visit.

The Ad Limina visit is a longstanding tradition in which bishops from around the world travel to Rome to pray at the tombs of Saint Peter and Saint Paul and to meet with officials of the Holy See and the Holy Father regarding the pastoral life and mission of the Church in their respective countries.
