During a special seminar on August 9 marking National Minority Day in Pakistan, Catholic social activist Asher Nazir was honored with the Peace and Interfaith Harmony Award in recognition of his outstanding contributions to peacebuilding and interfaith dialogue.

Nazir serves as the Executive Secretary of the Dominican-run Peace Center in Lahore, Pakistan. The award was presented by Sardar Ramesh Singh Arora, Provincial Minister for Human Rights and Minority Affairs, Government of Punjab.

Since 2010, the Peace Center Lahore has actively promoted peace, harmony, and interreligious dialogue in Pakistan, a Muslim-majority nation. Promoting Christian–Muslim dialogue is a key priority for the Dominican Order in Pakistan.

The seminar, organized by the United Interfaith Organizations under the theme “One Humanity, Many Faiths,” took place at the Alhamra Art Council in Lahore. It brought together prominent interfaith leaders from Christianity, Islam, Hinduism, and Sikhism.

The conference was a collaborative effort of the United Interfaith Organizations and its member bodies, with Peace Center Lahore serving as a key partner. The interactive dialogue, part of the National Minority Week celebrations, aimed to foster interfaith harmony, mutual respect, and a culture of understanding among Pakistan’s diverse communities.

The platform allowed participants to share perspectives, experiences, and strategies for building unity and embracing diversity at both organizational and community levels.

In his address, Minister Arora reaffirmed the government’s commitment to protecting minority rights and emphasized the importance of interfaith peace and harmony in creating a tolerant, inclusive, and cohesive society.

The event concluded with a renewed pledge from all participants to work together for the advancement of peace, respect for diversity, and interfaith solidarity in Pakistan.
