Pakistan: Church Reaches Out to Flood Victims as Situation Remains Grim

Catholic Church intensifies flood relief as St. James Parish in Sialkot faces severe damage from rising waters on September 4, 2025.

The Catholic Church in Pakistan has intensified its relief efforts amid the worsening flood situation across the country. On September 4, 2025, conditions in St. James Parish, Sialkot Cantt, in Sialkot District, Punjab Province, became extremely critical as floodwaters from Nala Aik, Nala Daik, and Nala Palko entered the region, causing widespread havoc.

The devastating floods have resulted in severe destruction, leaving the local community in great distress. Many families have lost their homes, with several houses collapsing completely while others remain badly damaged. Crops have been washed away, valuable belongings destroyed, and roads severely affected. Continuous heavy rains have further aggravated the crisis, compounding the misery of the affected people.

The parish house itself has suffered serious damage, with water leaking through the roof and standing water pooling inside, reflecting the extent of destruction across the community. Families are struggling to cope with immense losses and remain in urgent need of support.

In a gesture of solidarity, a delegation led by Fr. Asif Sardar, Vicar General of the Archdiocese of Lahore, visited the parish. He conveyed the blessings and prayers of Archbishop Benny Mario Travas, assuring the community that the Archdiocese stands firmly with them in this hour of trial.

During the visit, food packages were distributed among the most vulnerable families to provide immediate relief. The Caritas Pakistan Lahore team also accompanied the visit, engaging with the community and conducting a needs assessment to determine further assistance required.

The affected families have appealed for continued support as they struggle to rebuild their lives amidst ongoing heavy rains and widespread destruction.
