Pakistan: Karachi Catholic School Hosts Iftar Dinner to Celebrate Patron’s Feast and pray for peace

Deeply committed to mission of ‘Communion,’ Archbishop Benny Travas of Karachi has been taking various initiatives to promote peace and harmony in Pakistan.

In a spirit of interreligious unity, St. Patrick’s High School in Karachi, southern  Pakistan, hosted an Iftar gathering on March 17 to celebrate the feast of St. Patrick and to pray for peace in the world, especially amid ongoing tensions involving Israel, Iran, and the United States.

The school is managed by the Catholic Archdiocese of Karachi.

Fr. Mario Rodrigues, a senior priest of the archdiocese and principal of St. Patrick’s High School, said the initiative reflects the need for harmony and mutual understanding.

“We have to be an example for others. The world needs peace and harmony, and as Christians, this season of Lent and the Islamic month of Ramadan call us to live in togetherness. We must take initiatives to come together, know one another, and work for the good of society side by side. This helps us live in mutual respect and peaceful coexistence,” he said.

The Iftar gathering is part of the many initiatives of the Archdiocese of Karachi to strengthen peace, harmony, and unity among people of different faiths, especially during the overlapping seasons of Lent and Ramadan.

“We believe in peaceful coexistence. It is an urgent need of our time that we, living in Karachi, the metropolitan city of Pakistan, play our role in building and strengthening interfaith harmony and peace among people of diverse faiths. As a Church, it is our mission to spread the message of love to our Muslim brethren and people of other faiths,” Fr. Rodrigues said in a message sent to RVA on March 17.

St. Patrick is also the patron saint of the Catholic Archdiocese of Karachi.

Fr. Rodrigues highlighted the efforts of Archbishop Benny Travas of Karachi in promoting peace and harmony with renewed zeal and dedication.

“The Archbishop is deeply committed to his mission of ‘Communion,’ as reflected in his coat of arms. He envisions people of all faiths living in communion with one another and growing in peace, harmony, unity, and togetherness,” he said.

Earlier, on March 13, Fr. Rodrigues, with the support of partner organizations, distributed 200 food bags to poor and needy Muslim and Christian staff members, as well as parents of students, to mark the Lenten season and the month of Ramadan.
