Philippine Jesuits Open Transitional Home for Newly Released Prisoners

On July 2, 2025, the Philippine Jesuit Prison Service inaugurated and blessed Balay ni Lolo Kiko, a transitional home established under the Persons with Restored Liberty (PRL) care program. Balay ni Lolo Kiko, which means “The House of Grandpa Kiko”—with "Kiko" being a Filipino nickname for Pope Francis aims to support the reintegration of newly released prisoners.
The sanctuary offers a 12-week healing journey followed by up to 18 months of reintegration support. It serves as a safe space for former prisoners re-entering society, providing holistic healing, formation, and guided reintegration through parish or workplace engagement.
The blessing ceremony included a Mass presided over by Jesuit Fr. Xavier L. Olin, Provincial Superior of the Philippine Province of the Society of Jesus.
The Philippine Jesuit Prison Service expressed gratitude to its generous benefactors: Mr. Tony and Mrs. Orange and Family; Hon. Karl B. Miranda; Hon. Marian Ivy F. Reyes-Fajardo; Business Network International (represented by Ms. Djarna Pestaño); the Village Homeowners’ Association; and Ms. Mariel Tolentino.
Since its founding in 1996, the Philippine Jesuit Prison Service has been supporting Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDLs) through hope-filled pastoral care and holistic development programs, led by Jesuit priests and dedicated volunteers.
Radio Veritas Asia (RVA), a media platform of the Catholic Church, aims to share Christ. RVA started in 1969 as a continental Catholic radio station to serve Asian countries in their respective local language, thus earning the tag “the Voice of Asian Christianity.” Responding to the emerging context, RVA embraced media platforms to connect with the global Asian audience via its 21 language websites and various social media platforms.
