Philippine Prelate Calls for Prayer, Moral Renewal, and Civic Responsibility
Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) President Archbishop Gilbert Garcera has called on bishops, priests, consecrated persons, and the lay faithful to continue praying for the enlightenment, conversion, and renewal of the nation amid ongoing concerns over corruption, injustice, and declining public trust.
In a pastoral message dated June 22, Archbishop Garcera expressed gratitude to dioceses, parishes, religious communities, and families that have responded to the Church’s call for “A Nation’s Prayer for Enlightenment, Conversion, and Renewal.”
“Your perseverance in prayer is a powerful witness of our trust in God and our love for our country,” the archbishop said.
The CBCP president also acknowledged the upcoming White Ribbon March on June 28 at the EDSA People Power Monument, describing it as a faith-based and non-partisan gathering calling for truth, accountability, justice, and righteousness in public life.
He said those who feel called by conscience and local circumstances may participate in the peaceful event prayerfully and respectfully.
Organized by multiple religious groups, the march forms part of a broader movement advocating accountability, good governance, and reforms against corruption and political dynasties. Church leaders have emphasized that the activity is rooted in prayer and discernment rather than partisan politics.
Archbishop Garcera reminded Catholics that the Eucharist remains the true source of strength and urged the faithful to participate in Sunday Mass on June 28.
“The power of the Eucharist renews hearts and transforms lives, enabling us to become instruments of justice, reconciliation, and hope,” he said.
The archbishop also entrusted the nation to the care of Our Lady of Guadalupe, whose pilgrim image is currently visiting different parts of the country. He prayed that the Blessed Mother would continue to guide the Filipino people, their leaders, and the nation toward Christ.
“Let us continue to pray for the enlightenment of minds, the conversion of hearts, and the renewal of our nation,” Archbishop Garcera said.
The pastoral message comes as the Church intensifies its calls for prayer and civic responsibility, encouraging Filipinos to respond to national challenges through faith, moral renewal and peaceful action.
Radio Veritas Asia (RVA), a media platform of the Catholic Church, aims to share Christ. RVA started in 1969 as a continental Catholic radio station to serve Asian countries in their respective local language, thus earning the tag “the Voice of Asian Christianity.” Responding to the emerging context, RVA embraced media platforms to connect with the global Asian audience via its 21 language websites and various social media platforms.
