In commemoration of the 40th anniversary of the 1986 EDSA People Power Revolution, the Apostolic Vicariate of Calapan, Oriental Mindoro, Philippines, will lead a faith-driven “Lakbayan Laban sa Katiwalian” (Journey Against Corruption), combining prayer, reflection, and civic action on Feb 25.

Balanga diocese bishop-elect Rufino Sescon, Jr. chose to be ordained on the 39th anniversary of EDSA People Power Revolution that toppled dictator Ferdinand Marcos, Sr. in 1986 after 21 years in power.

Bishop Rufino Sescon, Jr., who was appointed head of the Diocese of Balanga by Pope Francis in December 2024, was ordained during the 39th anniversary of EDSA People Power Revolution on Tuesday.

The late Jaime Cardinal Sin was appointed coadjutor Archbishop of Jaro in 1972, the same year Ferdinand Marcos, Sr., father and namesake of the sitting president, put the entire Philippines under martial rule. He became full Archbishop of Jaro the following year.

As All Souls Day approaches on November 2, Bishop Ruperto Santos of Antipolo Diocese has reminded Filipinos to honor and pray for their departed loved ones, emphasizing that the faithful should refrain from disturbing the dead and instead focus on offering prayers for their souls.

“EDSA was not a victory for one party and the defeat of another. It was not a triumph of one family vanquishing another. It was as the fulfillment of a promise, a particular instance of a triumph of the Immaculate Heart of Mary,” Bishop Dennis said.
