RVA Program Director to Grace 44th SIGNIS Salutation Awards in Sri Lanka

The 44th SIGNIS Salutation 2025 Awards Ceremony will take place on November 1 at BMICH, celebrating Sri Lanka’s finest in film and television.

The 44th SIGNIS Salutation 2025 Awards Ceremony, Sri Lanka’s most prestigious recognition for excellence in film and television, will be held on November 1, 2025, at the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall (BMICH) in Colombo.

The annual event, organized by the National Catholic Centre for Social Communications under the patronage of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Sri Lanka, will gather nearly a thousand members of the country’s film and television industry. Around a hundred artistes will be honored for their outstanding contributions across various categories.

Rev. Fr. John Mi Shen, Executive Secretary of the Federation of Asian Bishops’ Conferences, Office of Social Communication (FABC-OSC) and Program Director of Radio Veritas Asia (RVA), will be the Chief Guest at this year’s ceremony.

“It is truly an honor to be part of a celebration that recognizes the power of media and storytelling to uplift and unite people,” said Fr. Mi Shen. “Through the arts, we find ways to communicate truth, hope, and the beauty of human experience, values that deeply resonate with the mission of the Church in Asia.”

The event will be graced by Rt. Rev. Dr. Jude Nishantha, Chairman of the Bishops’ Commission for Social Communications, who will preside over the ceremony and offer his blessings.

“SIGNIS has served as a bridge between faith and creativity,” Bishop Nishantha remarked. “It is a space where the Church walks with the artists of our nation, encouraging them to bring light and meaning through their craft.”

Fr. Jude Chrysantha Fernando, National Director for Social Communications and President of SIGNIS Sri Lanka, noted that the SIGNIS Awards have become an institution in the country’s cultural life.

“For over five decades, the SIGNIS Salutation has stood as a symbol of integrity and artistic excellence,” he said. “Our mission is not only to celebrate talent but to inspire responsible communication that contributes to peace and harmony in our society.”

Founded more than 50 years ago, the SIGNIS Salutation is the oldest existing film and television awards ceremony in Sri Lanka and remains the only internationally recognized media award in the country. Despite being a Catholic initiative, SIGNIS Sri Lanka’s programs have long served people of all faiths, including a large number of Buddhist artists and media professionals.

The 2025 ceremony continues this inclusive spirit, honoring creativity that strengthens the moral and cultural fabric of the island nation.

Radio Veritas Asia (RVA), a media platform of the Catholic Church, aims to share Christ. RVA started in 1969 as a continental Catholic radio station to serve Asian countries in their respective local language, thus earning the tag “the Voice of Asian Christianity.”  Responding to the emerging context, RVA embraced media platforms to connect with the global Asian audience via its 21 language websites and various social media platforms.
