A Marian devotion that took root in a relocation community in Rizal, Philippines, has received one of the Catholic Church's highest honors, marking a historic moment for thousands of faithful who have long turned to the Blessed Virgin Mary as a source of peace and hope.

The Diocese of Antipolo, located in the greater Manila metropolitan area in the Philippines, recently announced that the Dicastery for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments, acting in the name and authority of Pope Leo XIV, has granted the request for the pontifical coronation of the venerable image of Maria, Ina ng Kapayapaan (Mary, Mother of Peace), venerated at the Parish of Maria, Ina ng Kapayapaan in Barangay Kasiglahan, Rodriguez, Rizal.

In a message to the faithful, Bishop Ruperto Cruz Santos described the Vatican's approval as "a truly historic blessing" for the diocese. He said the honor is "a precious gift from the Holy Father and a profound grace for our Diocese, especially during this blessed Jubilee Year."

The recognition carries special significance because the devotion flourished not in a centuries-old pilgrimage center but in Kasiglahan Village, a resettlement community that became home to thousands of families relocated from different parts of Metro Manila. Over the years, residents faced the challenges of rebuilding their lives, establishing communities, and creating a sense of belonging in unfamiliar surroundings.

For many families, devotion to Maria, Ina ng Kapayapaan, became a spiritual anchor. Under the title "Mother of Peace," the Blessed Virgin came to symbolize comfort, unity, and hope amid uncertainty. The image gradually attracted growing numbers of devotees whose prayers, testimonies, and participation helped strengthen the devotion.

According to Bishop Santos, the coronation also recognizes the enduring faith of the people who nurtured the devotion over the years. "Through this Pontifical Coronation, the Universal Church recognizes the deep devotion of the faithful to our Blessed Mother under the title Maria, Ina ng Kapayapaan and affirms her maternal presence among the People of God," he said.

A pontifical coronation is a rare distinction bestowed upon Marian images that have inspired widespread and lasting devotion. The honor acknowledges not only the image itself but also the spiritual impact it has had on generations of believers.

As preparations begin for the coronation, the bishop urged the faithful to entrust themselves anew to the Mother of Peace, praying that she may continue to intercede for families, communities, and the nation.

For the people of Kasiglahan, the Vatican's recognition affirms that a devotion born in a community of resettled families has become a witness to faith, perseverance, and hope for the wider Church.
