Health camp for children with disabilities held in north-eastern India

The social development center in the Agartala diocese of Tripura in northeastern India organized a health camp for children with disabilities and their parents on February 17.

The social development center in the Agartala diocese of Tripura in northeastern India organized a health camp for children with disabilities and their parents on February 17.

Oisho Bani Society (OBS), an NGO led by the Society of the Divine Word priests held the health camp, with the support of Christopher Blind Mission (CBM), at Old Agartala English Medium Higher Secondary School.

As many as 125 children with disabilities and their parents benefitted from the medical camp. After the health check-up, free medicine was distributed.

The Director of the Oisho Bani Society, Father Jeevan Kennady, welcomed and introduced the purpose and importance of the health camp.

The Inspector of schools and his deputy, and the school in charge were present for the inaugural function of the health camp.

Dr. Rakesh Majumder screened the patients and administered the needed medicine.

The beneficiaries were happy and expressed their gratitude to OBS and CBM, an international Christian development organization committed to improving the quality of life of people with disabilities in the poorest communities of the world. It is deemed as one of the world's oldest and largest organizations working in this field.

Oisho Bani Society plans to organize two more such health camps on 23 and 25 February, said Father Kennady, a Divine Word missionary.

Established in 2000, OBS works in the areas of gender, employment, tribes, business and finance, housing, health, education, disaster management, child and youth development, art and culture, food and nutrition, and animal husbandry.
