Daily Readings: Wisdom 7:22-8:1; Luke 17:20-25
The author of the Book of Wisdom sings the glory of wisdom. He personifies her and enumerates her outstanding qualities. Wisdom is intelligent, holy, unique, distinct, beneficent, humane, steadfast, all-powerful, pure, and subtle, to mention only a few. Wisdom fashions all things, renews all things, and teaches everything. Her duty is to enter holy souls and make them prophets and friends of God. The attributes of wisdom are amazing and absolutely divine. She becomes a source of holiness. She “is a reflection of eternal light, a spotless mirror of the working of God, and an image of his goodness” (Wisdom 7:26). As Jesus said in John 14:9, “Whoever has seen me has seen the Father.” Wisdom shines brighter than the sun. She is a far superior light, excelling every constellation of stars. Evil cannot prevail against her. God indeed loves those who live with wisdom.
Jesus never fails to highlight the purpose of His incarnation. He came to endure suffering and be rejected by the people of His time before returning to His Father. But the Pharisees were preoccupied with their own attitudes and questions. They failed to realize that where Jesus is, there the kingdom of God is. It is a spiritual reality. It exists everywhere, but only believers can recognize it. It brings about internal transformation; it is not a physical reality. Believers are not to rely on false prophets or soothsayers who falsely predict the arrival or presence of the kingdom of God. Today’s generation is challenged to recognize God’s presence in all that happens around us, whether human-made or natural calamities, atrocities, crimes, or even subtle persecutions.
Call to Action: To bear witness to Jesus is to bear witness to the Kingdom of God. It is vital to believe that Jesus lives in our midst. Failure to realize this leads to anxiety and self-doubt.
Radio Veritas Asia (RVA), a media platform of the Catholic Church, aims to share Christ. RVA started in 1969 as a continental Catholic radio station to serve Asian countries in their respective local language, thus earning the tag “the Voice of Asian Christianity.” Responding to the emerging context, RVA embraced media platforms to connect with the global Asian audience via its 21 language websites and various social media platforms.
