Daily Readings: Colossians 2:6-15; Luke 6:12-19
The Letter to the Colossians exhorts believers to remain deeply united with Christ Jesus, the Lord, rooted, built up, and steadfast in faith. Such a life ensures salvation and safeguards them from false philosophies, empty deceits, human traditions, and the so-called elemental powers of the world. In Christ alone dwells the fullness of the Godhead, and through Him, believers receive the gift of forgiveness. By baptism, they share in His death and resurrection, spiritually circumcised, buried with Him, and raised to new life. On the Cross, Christ nailed humanity’s sins, stripping the powers of darkness of their hold over us. His triumph is the victory of love.
Today’s Gospel (Luke 6) presents Jesus at prayer, a hallmark of decisive moments in His mission. He withdraws to the mountain, spending the entire night in communion with the Father. From this intimate union flows the strength for His next act: calling His disciples and choosing twelve apostles, entrusting them with the continuation of His saving mission. This scene reminds us that true discipleship leads to mission; to be a follower of Christ is also to be a bearer of His Gospel.
Descending from the mountain, Jesus stands on a level place, face-to-face with a multitude from Judea, Jerusalem, Tyre, and Sidon, Jews and Gentiles alike. Here we glimpse the universal scope of His mission: all are invited, all are welcome. The crowd gathers to hear His word and receive His healing, and those who draw near in faith experience His life-giving power.
This reflection calls us to remain firmly anchored in Christ, to nurture our lives in prayer, and to embrace the mission to which we are sent. As we trust in His healing presence, we too become instruments of His love in a world longing for hope.
Call to Action: The more we discover Mary, the more we discover Jesus. How well do I know Jesus, the Son of God?
Radio Veritas Asia (RVA), a media platform of the Catholic Church, aims to share Christ. RVA started in 1969 as a continental Catholic radio station to serve Asian countries in their respective local language, thus earning the tag “the Voice of Asian Christianity.” Responding to the emerging context, RVA embraced media platforms to connect with the global Asian audience via its 21 language websites and various social media platforms.
