God is the Ancient One from Ancient Days!

August 6, 2025  Wednesday of the Eighteenth Week in Ordinary Time
Feast of the Transfiguration of the Lord
Daily Readings: Daniel 7:9-10, 13-14; 2 Peter 1:16-19; Luke 9:28b-36

The Feast of the Transfiguration of the Lord is celebrated at a pivotal moment in Jesus’ ministry, when He sets His face toward Jerusalem, fully aware of the suffering, death, and resurrection that await Him. Though divine, Jesus willingly embraces the path of the cross. The Transfiguration becomes both a revelation and a preparation, a radiant glimpse of His glory to strengthen the disciples before the Passion. In the first reading from Daniel, we encounter a vision of the “Ancient One” seated on a fiery throne, clothed in white, symbolizing purity and eternity. Into this vision comes “one like a Son of Man,” who is given dominion, glory, and kingship. This is a prophetic glimpse of Jesus Christ, the eternal and exalted Son of God. In 2 Peter, St. Peter reflects on this mountaintop event, affirming that they were eyewitnesses of His majesty. He recalls the voice from heaven: “This is my Son, my Beloved, with whom I am well pleased,” urging believers to cling to Christ as a lamp shining in a dark place.

Luke’s Gospel highlights Jesus' prayer. He ascends the mountain with Peter, James, and John, not for display, but to pray. During this sacred communion, He is transfigured, His face radiant, His garments dazzling. Moses and Elijah appear, symbolizing that Jesus fulfills both the Law and the Prophets. Though drowsy, the disciples behold His glory and hear the Father’s voice: “This is my Son, my Chosen; listen to Him!” The Transfiguration reminds us that while the way of discipleship may involve suffering, it leads to glory. We are called, like the apostles, to listen to Him, with reverence, trust, and unwavering faith.

Call to Action: We are commanded by the Father to “Listen to Him.” In a world full of competing voices and distractions, are we tuning our hearts to hear Christ? Let today be a moment of transfiguration for us, a renewal of our resolve to follow the Son of God, through the cross, into glory.

Radio Veritas Asia (RVA), a media platform of the Catholic Church, aims to share Christ. RVA started in 1969 as a continental Catholic radio station to serve Asian countries in their respective local language, thus earning the tag “the Voice of Asian Christianity.”  Responding to the emerging context, RVA embraced media platforms to connect with the global Asian audience via its 21 language websites and various social media platforms.
