Instant Christmas

December 10, Saturday of the Second Week of Advent
Daily Readings: Sir 48:1-4, 9-11, Ps 80:2ac and 3b, 15-16, 18-19, Mt 17:9a, 10-13

In this modern world, we can almost have everything in an instant. Simply tap the app for food delivery, groceries or purchases.  

We're so used to this that we tend to forget that there are still some things we can't get right away. All of the gifts you open on Christmas Eve and the Noche Buena you'll eat after Midnight Mass were made ahead of time. All of these were planned.

But when the BER months arrive, it’s instantly Christmas in the Philippines. Carols are heard on the radio, Christmas decors are hung and the countdown to December 25 begins. No preparations needed. Christmas is here!

However, it is not the same with the Son of Man. He did not come here in this world instantly. Before Jesus, there were prophets to tell people that salvation is near. Unfortunately, some did not listen. But you see, Jesus did not just appear just like that; Mary gave birth to Him.

Did you know that the liturgical color violet during the Advent Season means penance, preparation, and sacrifice?

Penance: this is not only for Lent. What would you do to change your sinful ways?

Preparation: this is not just for your Noche Buena or the gifts to be opened at midnight. Do you have something to prepare and share to others so that their Christmas would be a merry one, too?

Sacrifice: In these hard times, is there something the family can do without this year so that the money for it can be given to people who need it the most?

When we make the right preparations during the Advent Season, the celebration of Christmas will be a very meaningful one.
