Daily Readings:  Colossians 1:9-14; Luke 5:1-11

St. Paul was a man deeply rooted in prayer. Prayer was not merely an act for him; it was the very breath of his missionary life. Together with his companion Timothy, he continually interceded for the believers in Colossae, especially upon hearing that false teachers were spreading deceptive ideas among them. For Paul, this was no minor issue, it was a grave concern that threatened the integrity of their faith. His prayer was profound: that the Colossians might be filled with the knowledge of God’s will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding. He desired that they lead lives worthy of their calling, fully pleasing to the Lord, enduring trials with joyful patience, and giving thanks to the Father. They were to live as children of light, for God had rescued them from the dominion of darkness and transferred them into the kingdom of His beloved Son, Jesus Christ, the source of redemption and forgiveness of sins.

The Gospel reinforces this call to faith and discipleship through the vocation of St. Peter. A seasoned fisherman, Peter encounters Jesus, the carpenter’s son, who instructs him to cast his nets once more. Peter’s humility and obedience open the door to a miraculous catch of fish, revealing the power of Christ’s word. Overwhelmed, Peter falls to his knees, confessing his unworthiness: “I am a sinful man.” This act of surrender marks the beginning of his transformation.

The contrast is striking: while the crowd eagerly presses in to hear Jesus teach, Peter recognizes the deeper call, not just to listen, but to follow. Jesus, seated in Peter’s boat, preaches to the multitudes, yet it is in Peter’s personal response of faith that the true miracle unfolds. His willingness to leave behind his old life and embark on a new journey with Christ is a testament to what genuine discipleship requires: trust, humility, and total surrender.

Call to Action: As a believer in Christ, I have both social and spiritual responsibility for my brothers and sisters. Even if I cannot do great things, I can at least pray for them fervently.

Radio Veritas Asia (RVA), a media platform of the Catholic Church, aims to share Christ. RVA started in 1969 as a continental Catholic radio station to serve Asian countries in their respective local language, thus earning the tag “the Voice of Asian Christianity.”  Responding to the emerging context, RVA embraced media platforms to connect with the global Asian audience via its 21 language websites and various social media platforms.
