Pharisees ask Jesus for heavenly sign

Pope Francis will be unable to preside over Ash Wednesday services on March 2 because of acute knee pain, according to media reports. The pope’s doctor had “prescribed a period of greater rest for the leg” because of “acute gonalgia,” or knee pain, the Vatican explained in a note.

Genesis 4: 1-15, 25; Mark 8: 11-13

What does it mean when we seek signs from the Lord Jesus? Having weak faith means that Jesus is not yet enough to guarantee our salvation since we still need signs and wonders from Jesus. A true believer and a person of faith will not seek signs from the Lord but will trust Lord Jesus no matter whether signs are seen or not.

Since His name alone is more than enough to deliver us from all of our fears and doubts, if we truly love and trust Him, we will no longer ask for a sign from Him. This is the reason why we always feel His abiding presence in our lives.

When we reverently attend Holy Mass, especially when we partake of His Body and Blood during Holy Communion, the Lord is with us. The Lord speaks to us the moment we reverently read His words in the Bible. When we pray with reverence the Holy Rosary, Jesus is with us.

Let us not ask for signs. Instead, get intimate with Jesus through our faithful presence at Holy Mass, by having a daily habit of reading the Bible and by having a daily quiet time in prayer with Him.
