Pillars of Truth in God’s Household

September 17, 2025 Wednesday of the Twenty-fourth Week in Ordinary Time
Daily Readings: 1 Timothy 3:14-16; Luke 7:31-35
St. Paul, in his letter to Timothy, highlights the dignity of the Church as “the household of God, the pillar and bulwark of truth" (1 Tim. 3:15). The Church is not a mere human institution but the dwelling of the living God and the place where divine mysteries are celebrated and handed down. Paul recalls the core of our faith: the great mystery of godliness, Christ revealed in the flesh, vindicated in the Spirit, seen by angels, proclaimed among the nations, believed in throughout the world, and taken up in glory. This hymn affirms both the incarnation and exaltation of Christ, reminding us that our faith is firmly rooted in the saving mystery of Jesus Christ.
Psalm 111 invites us to praise this God whose works are magnificent, majestic, and enduring. God’s deeds reveal His justice, compassion, and fidelity. He provides food for His people and remembers His covenant forever. Just as Paul stresses the Church as a pillar of truth, the psalmist proclaims the Lord’s faithfulness and the enduring power of His word. God’s actions in history are not fleeting; they establish the foundation of trust upon which the faithful build their lives.
In the Gospel (Luke 7:31–35), however, Jesus laments the fickleness of His generation. They reject both John the Baptist, who came in austerity, and Himself, who came with openness and joy. Their refusal reveals hearts closed to God’s wisdom. Jesus concludes: “Wisdom is vindicated by all her children.” The true test of faith is not in appearances but in fruits, those who live according to God’s wisdom make visible His truth.
Together, these readings challenge us to live as members of God’s household, grounded in the mystery of Christ, praising His mighty works, and bearing the fruits of wisdom in our lives. May we be pillars of truth in a world swayed by confusion, steadfast witnesses of the Gospel proclaimed to the nations.
Call to Action: Lord, make us faithful members of Your household. May we praise Your mighty works, live by Your wisdom, and stand as steadfast witnesses of Christ in the world.
