The leaders of the Indonesian Bishops' Conference (KWI) and the Communion of Churches in Indonesia (PGI) have agreed to expand their already robust cooperation to empower diverse social sectors.

On the occasion of an audience on July 10 at the KWI Office, the Chairman of KWI, Bishop Antonius Subianto Bunjamin, OSC, and the General Chairman of PGI, Pastor Gomar Gultom, communicated this agreement.

The audience for the two Leaders of church Institutions provided an opportunity to discuss their mission in various social sectors, including empowering the people's economy, education, religion, digital media development, and young Christians' participation in national politics.

"The presence of pastors from the PGI is a privilege and an advantage for KWI. We are pleased to hear the PGI’s thoughts and opinions," said Bishop Benjamin, describing the meeting as "an opportunity" to "strengthen the existing cooperation."

In response to the invitation and aspirations of KWI’s chair, the Chairperson of PGI stated that the partnership between KWI and PGI had existed for an extended period.

"We are delighted to meet Bishop Anton and the clergy of KWI. Currently, a summit between KWI and PGI is required to strengthen our partnership," said Rev. Gomar Gultom, general chairman of the PGI.

He stated that collaboration between the two institutions is not limited to the annual Christmas message, but can take place in a variety of methods.

"In many ways, we can be partners," said Gultom.

The Communion of Churches in Indonesia is the largest organization of Christian churches in the country. It consists of more than 70 Protestant churches throughout the country.

At the group visit were the PGI Daily Workers' Council General Secretary and several Executive Secretaries, Bureau Heads, and Staff.

Bishop Benjamin welcomed the visitor in the meantime, along with Father Paulus Christian Siswantoko, KWI's executive secretary, and various priests who were acting in different capacities.

Besides this collaboration, Catholic and Protestant leaders have regularly issued an annual joint Christmas message. - With inputs from Mirifica News

Radio Veritas Asia (RVA), a media platform of the Catholic Church, aims to share Christ. RVA started in 1969 as a continental Catholic radio station to serve Asian countries in their respective local language, thus earning the tag “the Voice of Asian Christianity.”  Responding to the emerging context, RVA embraced media platforms to connect with the global Asian audience via its 21 language websites and various social media platforms.
