India: Manipur Catholic Women Hold Spiritual Animation Program, First Gathering Since Violence

The Manipur Catholic Women Organisation (MCWO), Archdiocese of Imphal, hosted a one-day Spiritual Animation program on August 24 at the Divine Glory Retreat Centre, Zoumun, in the Churachandpur District.
The theme of the event was “It is not you who will speak but the Spirit of the Father in you” (Matthew 10:20).
Fr. Albert Rakesh, Assistant Parish Priest of Good Shepherd Parish, Lamka, delivered the welcome address.
The day began with praise and worship led by Catechist Savio Lianzaw and Sr. Roveina Archana FCC, Spiritual Director of MCWO. This was followed by the Rosary and a session of Mass Confession.
Fr. Soni Thomas, Joint Director of DSSS and Spiritual Director of MCWO, was the main speaker. He shared the Gospel message that God’s presence brings peace. He emphasized: “Having God’s presence in our hearts leads to a peaceful life, and we are called to bear one another’s burdens.”
He also stressed that true justice cannot exist without peace and called for efforts to maintain harmony. Highlighting that the first word from Jesus was “peace,” he reminded participants that giving peace ensures receiving peace in return.
“Jesus is our hero; we don’t see him, but we can feel his presence. Jesus heals the broken,” he affirmed, recalling Jesus’ teaching on forgiveness to Peter as a reminder of community and unity.

Around 500 women from various parishes of Churachandpur District attended. Among the participants were Fr. George Ginsei Baite, Parish Priest of St. Teresa’s Parish; Fr. Praful; and other church leaders. Madam Justina Roel, the newly elected president of MCWO, was also present.
Sr. Roveina Archana FCC, Director of the Women and Children Commission of the Archdiocese, delivered a powerful message on the centrality of the Holy Eucharist, Confession, Reconciliation, Praying Together, the Word of God, and the Rosary in strengthening Catholic faith. She said, “All these are lifelines in our Catholic faith that can bring us closer to God.”
This event marked the first gathering between the Catholic brethren of the Naga and Kuki-Zo communities after a gap of 27 months, since the eruption of violence.
The program concluded with a vote of thanks by Anna Neiboi Gangte, Chairperson of KCWUM, and a fellowship meal served by the MCWO.
