Indonesia Marks 10th Anniversary of Laudato Si’ with National Celebration
The 10th anniversary commemoration of the encyclical Laudato Si’, organized by the Bogor chapter of the Laudato Si’ Movement Indonesia and the GLSI (national working team of the Laudato Si’ Movement Indonesia), was held on 5–7 September 2025 and proceeded smoothly.
The celebration featured talks by several speakers, including Father Martin Harun, OFM, and Father Yosef Irianto Segu, along with the affirmation of Laudato Si’ teachers in Indonesia such as Father Martin Harun, OFM, Father Ismartono, SJ, Father Ferry Sutisna Wijaya, Father Marthen Jenarut (Executive Secretary of the Indonesian Catholic Church's Commission for Justice and Peace, Pastoral Care for Migrants and Itinerants), and Dr. Sonny Keraf.
The event was enlivened by a green economy bazaar and workshops led by animators, and concluded with a solemn Eucharist celebrated by Bishop Pascalis Bruno Syukur, OFM (Bishop of Bogor), and Bishop Vincentius Setiawan Triatmojo (Bishop of Tanjungkarang).
Study and reflection sessions were held at the Padepokan Volley, Sentul City, Bogor, and the Graha Bina Humaniora of the Diocese of Bogor. The gathering brought together 150 priests, nuns (from 20 congregations), brothers, and lay activists from 11 dioceses. Also present were the Indonesian Catholic Women Association (WKRI), the Indonesian Nuns Association (IBSI), and the Gender and Women’s Empowerment Secretariat (SGPP) of the Indonesian Catholic Church (KWI).
The Eucharistic celebration welcomed parishioners and Laudato Si’ activists from parishes across Greater Jakarta (Jabodetabek). The event also marked the launch of the Laudato Si’ educational module, created by the Education Sector Team of the Indonesian Laudato Si’ Movement.
Notable attendees included Mrs. Rosa Vivien Ratnawati, Secretary General of the Indonesian Ministry of Environment; Sr. Stefani, SJMJ, from the SGPP KWI; and Father Vico, from the Education Commission of the KWI.
Radio Veritas Asia (RVA), a media platform of the Catholic Church, aims to share Christ. RVA started in 1969 as a continental Catholic radio station to serve Asian countries in their respective local language, thus earning the tag “the Voice of Asian Christianity.” Responding to the emerging context, RVA embraced media platforms to connect with the global Asian audience via its 21 language websites and various social media platforms.
