In response to the request of the General Secretariat of the Synod of Bishops, the Catholic Bishops' Conference of the Philippines (CBCP), and the International Shrine of Our Lady of Peace and Good Voyage, Antipolo Cathedral, to host and coordinate the Marian Moment of Prayer on May 31, the Feast of the Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
The main celebration will take place at the International Shrine and begin with a procession at 4:30 in the afternoon. There will then be a catechetical lecture on synodality, the recitation of the rosary, and the Mass at 6:00 in the evening.
Bishop Pablo Virgilio S. David of Kalookan and the CBCP President will lead the celebration.
On that day, the other 25 Marian national shrines and minor basilicas in the Philippines will hold simultaneous celebrations under the direction of their respective bishops, rectors, and pastoral teams.
The Philippines is Asia’s largest Catholic country.
Originally planned to happen in October 2023, the Synod of Bishops meetings in the Vatican will now also occur in October 2024 as part of the same Synod but split into two sessions.
The theme for Synod is “communion, participation, and mission.”
The International Shrine of Our Lady of Peace and Good Voyage, popularly known as Antipolo Cathedral, is the third worldwide shrine in Asia and the first in Southeast Asia. On March 25, 2022, it formally became an international shrine.
