The Amount of Love

June 10, Saturday of the 9th Week in Ordinary Time
Daily Readings: Tobit 12:1, 5-15, 20 and Mark 12: 38-44

"Do you want to know what to give? Just put yourself in the shoes of the receiver." Says Mother Teresa of Calcutta. Hence, it is no longer about what to give or how much to give but the amount of love and joy to be delivered and shared.

This is what God is teaching in the readings; Jesus and the angel Raphael (in Hebrew: Rapha, "He healed," El "God," God has healed). In the context of financial difficulties, a higher cost of life, indifference, etc., sharing might become a problematic Christian value because sharing is almost, if not always, associated with money.

Some people are so poor that the only thing they give is money. But God reminds us that a poor person can still share despite poverty. Tobit shared, offered, gave his time, physical effort, and compassion, and buried the dead; that is the record read about him in front of God.

Some priceless acts and words give the receiver more joy and peace: a simple hug, quality time, a smiling face, a time of conversation, a simple phone call, a birthday wish... May God help his people always to understand what true generosity is.

Radio Veritas Asia (RVA), a media platform of the Catholic Church, aims to share Christ. RVA started in 1969 as a continental Catholic radio station to serve Asian countries in their respective local language, thus earning the tag “the Voice of Asian Christianity.”  Responding to the emerging context, RVA embraced media platforms to connect with the global Asian audience via its 21 language websites and various social media platforms.
