Faith leads one to lead an obedient life!

Daily Readings: Romans 1:1-7;  Luke 11:29-32
We begin a new series of readings from St. Paul’s Letter to the Romans, written to the Christians in Rome. He identifies himself as a devout and committed servant of Jesus Christ with two qualifications: (i) called to be an apostle and (ii) set apart for the Gospel of God. Paul’s self-knowledge and awareness of his ministry amaze us. He is not a self-styled god-man; his call has a divine origin.
He then moves on to describe Jesus. According to Paul, Jesus possesses two unique natures: in the flesh, He is a descendant of David, and in the Spirit, He is the Son of God with power. His resurrection from the dead makes Him stand apart. It is through Jesus Christ that we have received grace and apostleship. We notice a transition in the pronoun from “he” to “we,” as Paul loved to include the Christians in Rome. His ministry as an apostle is to bring about the obedience of faith among all Gentiles for the sake of Jesus’ name. He dares to call them people who belong to Jesus Christ. Indeed, they are God’s beloved and are called to be saints. That is why he wishes them grace and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
When it comes to matters of faith, people tend to ask for visible signs. They failed to understand the words of Jesus: “Blessed are those who believe without seeing.” The people of Jesus’ time struggled with a lack of faith. Therefore, Jesus condemned their attitude, calling them an evil generation. He did not offer them any sign except the sign of Jonah. Jonah preached, and the Ninevites repented of their sins. Jesus is greater than Jonah. Jonah was in the belly of the fish for three days and three nights; likewise, Jesus would be in the belly of the earth for three days and three nights before His resurrection. The Queen of the South (Sheba) came from afar to listen to the wisdom of Solomon. Jesus is greater than Solomon because He is wisdom personified. The people of Jesus’ time were in need of faith rather than raising unnecessary questions.
Call to Action: Faith paves the way to holiness. Holiness means becoming like God, who is holy. When the going gets tough, we must rely on faith. Are we able to do that?
Radio Veritas Asia (RVA), a media platform of the Catholic Church, aims to share Christ. RVA started in 1969 as a continental Catholic radio station to serve Asian countries in their respective local language, thus earning the tag “the Voice of Asian Christianity.” Responding to the emerging context, RVA embraced media platforms to connect with the global Asian audience via its 21 language websites and various social media platforms.
