Bangladesh Church empowers youth leaders through YCS animators' seminar
In a strong push to inspire and equip young leaders, the Catholic Church in Bangladesh organized a three-day Young Christian Students (YCS) animators' seminar at the Christo Jyoti Pastoral Center in the Rajshahi diocese from June 11 to 13.
The event was hosted by the Youth Commission of the Diocese of Rajshahi.
As many as 91 YCS animators and members from parishes across the diocese attended it.
The theme of this seminar was “new consciousness and inspiration in the heart—take the concept of YCS.”
The seminar aimed to strengthen the foundation of the YCS movement by offering formation, fellowship, and vision to those guiding its mission.
The opening session featured prominent Church leaders, including Father Bikash James Rebeiro, executive secretary of the Episcopal Youth Commission and national youth coordinator; Father Shyamal Gomes, diocesan youth coordinator; Father Uzzal Samuel Rebeiro, former YCS chaplain; newly appointed YCS chaplain Father Sumit B. Costa; and Father Sagor Corraya, director of the hosting center.
The spiritual highlight of the event was the Holy Eucharistic celebration, presided over by Bishop Gervas Rozario of Rajshahi.
In his homily, he emphasized living in alignment with God’s will, stating, “As Christians, our true sacrifice is to accept God’s will in our lives and live accordingly.”
He encouraged participants to be fearless witnesses of Christ, saying, “If we truly love Jesus, we will not hesitate to proclaim the Good News.”
Throughout the seminar, sessions focused on formation and mission. Father Rebeiro explored the roots and vision of YCS, while Holy Cross Father Bikash Rebeiro guided animators on their duties and roles within the movement.
Sister Mary Jennifer, SMRA, introduced participants to YCS methodology, and Sister Roseline Rozario, RNDM, conducted effective cell meetings—a key component of the YCS structure.
In his remarks, Father Costa, the diocesan YCS chaplain, stressed the importance of grassroots engagement. “We aim to revitalize YCS in every parish. This seminar is a step toward that goal,” he said.
Encouraging the attendees, he added, “Take what you’ve received here back to your parishes, and help the YCS movement thrive.”
The seminar also featured a creative competition centered around the YCS theme song: “We are YCS, with patience in heart, courage in spirit, and strength in our actions,” allowing participants to showcase their talent and team spirit.
In the closing ceremony, Father Gomes, on behalf of the Diocesan Youth Commission, extended heartfelt thanks to all parish priests and participants for their commitment to building a vibrant YCS community.
The seminar ignited a renewed commitment to youth ministry across the diocese.
Radio Veritas Asia (RVA), a media platform of the Catholic Church, aims to share Christ. RVA started in 1969 as a continental Catholic radio station to serve Asian countries in their respective local language, thus earning the tag “the Voice of Asian Christianity.” Responding to the emerging context, RVA embraced media platforms to connect with the global Asian audience via its 21 language websites and various social media platforms.
