Divine Mercy Hospital, the largest project of the Christian Co-Operative Credit Union Ltd. (popularly known as Dhaka Credit), has launched a free shuttle bus service to make hospital access easier for patients and their families. The service began on September 20, 2025, with an inauguration ceremony at Purbachal on the outskirts of Dhaka.

The new service will operate twice daily between Kuril Bishwa Road, Purbachal (near the BRTC bus counter at the start of the 300-feet road) and Divine Mercy Hospital Ltd., located at Mothbari, Kaliganj, Gazipur District, about 25 kilometers from central Dhaka. Patients and visitors using the bus will not need to pay any separate fare.

Mr. Ignatius Hemonto Corraya, Chairman of Divine Mercy Hospital and President of Dhaka Credit, formally inaugurated the service, calling it a step to “ensure safe and easy transportation for Dhaka Credit members and all who seek services at Divine Mercy Hospital.”

Also present were Dhaka Credit leaders including Vice President Papri Devi Areng, Secretary Michael John Gomes, former President Nirmol Rozario, and Mr. Marcus Gomes. Speaking on the occasion, Michael Gomes described the move as “a historic moment and a groundbreaking step,” while Nirmol Rozario and Marcus Gomes confirmed that additional shuttle routes from other parts of Dhaka, including Mirpur and Farmgate, are being planned.

Other dignitaries at the ceremony included Dhaka Credit CEO Jonas Gomes, Divine Mercy Hospital CEO Dr. Ahmed Shafiqul Haider, Admin Director Ranjan Rozario, and Finance Director Sheeren Sylvester Gomes.

Divine Mercy Hospital is a 300-bed Catholic healthcare institution, operated under Dhaka Credit, one of the largest Catholic cooperative credit unions in Asia. In addition to providing affordable and quality healthcare, the hospital also plays a vital role in training nurses for service both in Bangladesh and abroad.

With this new shuttle bus initiative, the hospital hopes to become more accessible and to serve as a model of Catholic healthcare in the country.
