Pope Leo XIV Calls on Trump and World Leaders to Find an “Off-Ramp” to End War
Pope Leo XIV renewed his appeal for peace on March 31, urging world leaders, including U.S. President Donald Trump, to take concrete steps to end ongoing conflicts and reduce violence.
Speaking to journalists in Castel Gandolfo, the Pope called on all leaders to “come back to the table, to dialogue” and pursue peaceful solutions instead of war, an appeal reported by Vatican News.
Addressing a question about President Trump, the Pope said he had been informed that the president recently expressed a desire to end the war. He expressed hope that Trump is seeking an “off-ramp” - a path to de-escalate violence and reduce bombing, which could help curb the growing hatred in the Middle East and beyond.
The pontiff reminded listeners that Easter should be a time for reflection and peace, yet many parts of the world continue to endure war and violence, affecting even innocent children. Vatican News highlighted his repeated calls for dialogue and his appeal for leaders to choose paths that lessen suffering rather than fuel conflict.
Pope Leo also emphasized the Christian duty to recognize Christ in those who suffer from hatred, violence, and war, urging prayers for victims and for a renewed peace that could bring life and hope to all.
Radio Veritas Asia (RVA), a media platform of the Catholic Church, aims to share Christ. RVA started in 1969 as a continental Catholic radio station to serve Asian countries in their respective local language, thus earning the tag “the Voice of Asian Christianity.” Responding to the emerging context, RVA embraced media platforms to connect with the global Asian audience via its 21 language websites and various social media platforms.
