Students’ Movement Promotes Environmental Awareness in Central Bangladesh

BCSM organized an environmental awareness program for students at Holy Child Ideal School in Gazipur, Bangladesh, on May 26, 2026.

The Bangladesh Catholic Students’ Movement (BCSM) organized an environmental awareness program for students at Holy Child Ideal School in Gazipur, an industrial district north of Dhaka in central Bangladesh, on May 26.

The program was part of the 45-Day Earth Campaign titled “From Reflection to Action.” The initiative aimed to inspire young students to become more aware of their responsibility to care for the environment and protect the common home.

Through discussions and interactive activities, students were encouraged to reflect on the importance of environmental stewardship and the role that small but meaningful actions can play in building a sustainable future.

The program was attended by Fr. Khokon Vincent Gomes and Aditya John Rodrigues, along with members of the BCSM Laudato Si’ Commission. Addressing the students, the speakers highlighted the urgent need for ecological awareness, youth involvement, and collective action in response to the growing environmental crisis.

BCSM expressed gratitude to the administration of Holy Child Ideal School for warmly welcoming the initiative and encouraging students to actively engage in caring for creation. The organizers emphasized that educating and empowering young people is essential for creating long-term positive change in society and the environment.

The program concluded with a renewed commitment among students and organizers alike to continue promoting environmental responsibility through everyday actions and community engagement.

The Bangladesh Catholic Students’ Movement, popularly known as BCSM, is a movement for Catholic college and university students in Bangladesh. It was established in 1991 and continues to serve young people across the country.

BCSM is inspired by the International Movement of Catholic Students (IMCS) and is affiliated with the Bangladesh Episcopal Commission for Youth. The movement is currently active in nine dioceses across Bangladesh and has become an important platform for Catholic youth formation and leadership.

BCSM accompanies the faith journey and personal growth of its members in a holistic manner, encouraging continued involvement beyond student life and into professional and social engagement.

Radio Veritas Asia (RVA), a media platform of the Catholic Church, aims to share Christ. RVA started in 1969 as a continental Catholic radio station to serve Asian countries in their respective local language, thus earning the tag “the Voice of Asian Christianity.”  Responding to the emerging context, RVA embraced media platforms to connect with the global Asian audience via its 21 language websites and various social media platforms.
