Acknowledging Yahweh as our God is recognizing ourselves as humans!

August 8, 2025 Friday of the Eighteenth Week in Ordinary Time
Memorial of Saint Dominic, Priest
Daily Readings: Deuteronomy 4:32-40; Matthew 16:24-28
Deuteronomy reminds us of God’s nearness through mighty acts, His voice from the fire, His signs and wonders, and His hand that freed Israel. These were not mere historical events but divine revelations meant to form a relationship. To acknowledge Yahweh is not just to believe but to belong, to embrace His commandments and walk in gratitude. The promise is generational: life and prosperity in the land He gives.
In the Gospel, Jesus extends this covenantal call into discipleship. After Peter’s confession, He outlines the cost: deny yourself, take up your cross, and follow. True life, psyche, meaning both soul and life, is found not in worldly success, but in surrender. “What profit is it to gain the whole world but lose your soul?”
Today, on the memorial of St. Dominic Guzman, and inspired by saints like Francis Xavier, we are reminded that nourishing the soul with truth, prayer, and mission is the path to true humanity.
Call to Action: The human person is more than a body, we are spiritual beings made in God’s image. As we care for our bodies, let us also ask: How am I nourishing my soul today? Perhaps it’s time for prayer, reflection, or returning to the sacraments. In acknowledging Yahweh as our God, we rediscover our true humanity.
Radio Veritas Asia (RVA), a media platform of the Catholic Church, aims to share Christ. RVA started in 1969 as a continental Catholic radio station to serve Asian countries in their respective local language, thus earning the tag “the Voice of Asian Christianity.” Responding to the emerging context, RVA embraced media platforms to connect with the global Asian audience via its 21 language websites and various social media platforms.
