Visited by Mercy

December 21, 2025 Fourth Sunday of Advent
Daily Readings: Isaiah 7:10-14; Romans 1:1-7; Matthew 1:18-24

Children of God: In the Bible, the word “visit” has a deeper meaning than just dropping by. It signifies God’s mercy drawing near to His people. When God “visits,” He does not come as a distant observer but as a loving Father who steps into human life to heal, forgive, and restore. The people of Israel often prayed, “Lord, visit us with your salvation.” Every divine visitation brought hope—when God visited Sarah, she conceived; when He visited His people in Egypt, they were freed; and when He visited Mary, the Word became flesh. To be visited by God is to experience His mercy in action.

Through the birth of His Son, God visits humanity once more. Joseph, troubled and uncertain, learned through an angel’s message that Mary’s child is conceived by the Holy Spirit. The child is to be named “Jesus,” for he will save his people from their sins”. Joseph obeys in silence, and by welcoming Mary and the Child into his home, he welcomes God’s saving presence into the world. Through Joseph’s faith, God’s mercy takes human form and dwells among us.

Remember: Joseph did not preach or perform miracles, yet he became a bearer of divine joy simply by obeying God. His silent yes allowed the light of Christ to shine in a darkened world. Like Joseph, we too are called to bring Christ to others, not always through words, but through love, compassion, and faithfulness in our daily lives. Every act of kindness becomes a small visitation of God’s mercy to those around us.

When we forgive those who hurt us, when we help those in need, when we comfort the lonely, we become instruments of the same joy that entered the world that first Christmas. God continues to “visit” His people through us. We are His hands, His voice, and His heart. The more we allow Christ to live in us, the more others will experience His presence through our lives.

Children of God: Let us open our hearts to God’s merciful visitation and become bearers of that mercy to others. Like Joseph, let us welcome Jesus not only in our prayers but also in our actions. When we bring Christ to others with joy, we become part of God’s continuing story of salvation.

Radio Veritas Asia (RVA), a media platform of the Catholic Church, aims to share Christ. RVA started in 1969 as a continental Catholic radio station to serve Asian countries in their respective local language, thus earning the tag “the Voice of Asian Christianity.”  Responding to the emerging context, RVA embraced media platforms to connect with the global Asian audience via its 21 language websites and various social media platforms.
