What does Paul think of himself with regard to his mission to the Gentiles? The answer to this question is available in today’s text. Although the Roman Christians are full of goodness and filled with all knowledge and able to instruct one another, Paul dares to boldly write to them a few important things. He does so because of the grace given to him by God. In the first place, he is a minister of Christ Jesus to the Gentiles. He has a priestly ministry in the service of the Gospel in order to make the offerings of the Gentiles acceptable to God and sanctified by the Holy Spirit. Paul is strongly convinced that he can boast in the Lord for what Christ has accomplished through him to win obedience from the Gentiles, by word and deed. He is also certain that God accompanied him by powerful signs and wonders led by the Holy Spirit. Paul is ambitious to proclaim the Gospel where it is not yet preached. This verse inspired many founders of Religious Congregations especially St. Arnold Janssen to found the Society of the Divine Word. We get to see Paul how much he was persuaded to pursue his vocation to become the Apostle of the Gentiles.

The parable of the Unjust or Shrewd Manager is a challenging one. One can misunderstand it easily but we see that the master commended this man for acting shrewdly. The analysis of his context is amazing besides the decision. He knows that he cannot work in the field. He cannot depend on others. Therefore, he decides to cancel his profit and get back what belongs to his master. It is the presence of mind that draws the appreciation of his master even though he is selfish. It is the worldly shrewdness. That is why Jesus concludes the parable instructing the children of light to be aware of the smartness of children of this age. The children of light should learn how to deal with spiritual matters. The believers must also learn to use their wealth to serve others.

Call to Action: Wealth in itself is good. The way one uses it and the purpose for what it is used makes it good or bad. How do we use our wealth, be it in terms of money, gifts and talents?

Radio Veritas Asia (RVA), a media platform of the Catholic Church, aims to share Christ. RVA started in 1969 as a continental Catholic radio station to serve Asian countries in their respective local language, thus earning the tag “the Voice of Asian Christianity.”  Responding to the emerging context, RVA embraced media platforms to connect with the global Asian audience via its 21 language websites and various social media platforms.
